Course Title: Periodontal Maintenance of Dental Implants
Course Objectives: Following this course, participants should be able to:
- Recognize the etiology, risk indicators, signs, and classification of peri-implant disease.
- Describe clinical and radiographic dental implant evaluation procedures.
- Describe periodontal maintenance procedures and rationale for dental implants.
Course Description:
What is the prevalence of peri-implantitis? Which radiograph should serve as the baseline for the comparison of future peri-implant bone levels? Is it safe to use a stainless steel instrument to clean a dental implant? This 1.5 hour lecture course will explore the current classification of peri-implant disease, etiology, and evidence-based periodontal maintenance procedures for the prevention of peri-implant disease.
Biography:
Melissa S. Lang, D.D.S., M.S. is a 2004 graduate of the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Dentistry. In 2007, she received a Certificate in Periodontics and a Master of Science in Oral Biology from the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Dentistry.
Dr. Lang is an Associate Professor in the Department of Periodontics at Creighton University School of Dentistry and maintains a private periodontal practice in Omaha, Nebraska. She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology, a member of the American Academy of Periodontology, the Academy of Osseointegration, the American Dental Association, the Nebraska Dental Association, the Omaha District Dental Society, Omicron Kappa Upsilon Honor Dental Society, and past-President of the Nebraska Society of Periodontology.
